Vietnam comes 2nd in Asian Indoor Games

Vietnam, as hosts, ranked second in the Asian Indoor Games medals table, which concluded in Hanoi November 7 after nine days of competition.

China ranked first with 47 gold, 23 silver, and 18 bronze medals, with Vietnam a close second with 42 gold, 30 silver and 21 bronze medals.

Third place went to Kazakhstan with 21 gold, 16 silver and 21 bronze medals.

On the last day of the games, Vietnam won 13 more gold medals in pencak silat, wushu, badminton, kickboxing and dance-sport.

In pencak silat, Vietnam won seven gold, two silver and one bronze medals, ranking the country first in the event.

The gold medal winners of the event included, for the women, Huynh Thi Thi Hong (55 kilogram weight division); Nguyen Thi Phung Thuy (65 kg); and Le Thi Hong Ngoan (70 kg).

For the men: Nguyen Ba Trinh (60 kg); Vu The Hoang (80 kg); and Nguyen Thanh Quyen (85 kg).

In wushu, Vietnam was successful with trio Mai Phuong, Thuy Vy and Phuong Giang who won gold medal in taolu.

In muay and kickboxing, seven Vietnamese entered the finals and won two gold medals in kickboxing, including two women Nguyen Thi Tuyet Mai and Dao Thi Thoan.

Tran Duy Nhat won Vietnam’s first ever gold in muay at the regional event.

In badminton, the Vietnamese team won five gold medals, ranking first in the event.

In dance-sport, Minh Tuong and Hong Thi won gold in the Rumba.

Vietnam surpassed its initial hope of scooping 20 gold medals.
