Vietnam wins 11 golds at Asian Indoor Games, in 2nd place

Hosts Vietnam won 11 gold medals in the first two days of the Asian Indoor Games, including in online games, martial art vovinam, blitz chess, and swimming, to lie second in the medals table behind China.

In won the blitz chess event held at Quang Ninh Province by beating China in the final on November 1. It had earlier beaten another chess powerhouse, India, in the semifinal.

Vietnam won the men’s 100m bi-fin swimming gold medal thanks to a new Asian record by Nguyen Nhat Tu.

Billiards and snooker ace Duong Anh Vu defeated Republic of Korea’s Kim Kyung Roul in the semifinal and will meet another Korean, Cho Jea Ho, in the final on November 2nd afternoon.

The Vietnamese men’s and women’s futsal teams crashed out in the last four stage after Jordan handed them their first losses in the tournament.

Vietnam did not fare well in track and field. High jumper Nguyen Duy Bang failed to go above 2.11 meters and finished fifth in the final while SEA Games men’s 800 meters champion Nguyen Dinh Cuong crashed out in the semifinals after finishing fifth.
