Charity Projects Win Samsung Funding

Two Vietnamese charity projects are among the winners of the “Samsung Digital Hope 2006” goodwill competition, announced an organizer Thursday.

A US$90,250 prize will be awarded to both the Bung Sang Rearing and Vocational Guidance Center for Blind Children for their idea of a Braille Printing Center and Library and the School of Hearing Impaired Children Hy Vong 1 for their plan to develop and provide computer assistance for deaf children.

The competition received the cooperation of the Ho Chi Minh Central Youth Union and the Viet Nam Information Technology Association.

This year’s theme,“Imagine technology embracing lives”, encapsulates the efforts SAMSUNG has brought to enrich the lives of people with disabilities across seven Asia Pacific countries including Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam.

Projects that received funding last year included a multimedia education facility that provides free basic information and communications technology (ICT) literacy training, an assistive technology that allows people with disabilities to perform basic everyday tasks, an alternative communication method for the disabled and the provision of IT infrastructure and learning courses for marginalized youth.
