| Peace Message from Vietnamese And Australian Artists |
|
| Two sculptors, Australian artist Paul Phillips (L) and Vietnamese painter To Hong and thier work "As one". |
The sculpture “As One,” a symbol of peace by Australian artist Paul Phillips and Vietnamese painter To Hong is on display at the HCMC Museum of Fine Arts, 91 Pho Duc Chinh Street, District 1, from now until August 21.
The work is based on the real story of the world’s most famous couple, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, who decided to bed down for one week in 1969 to promote peace and get their message out to all those around the world already protesting against the war in Viet Nam.
The sculptors carved eleven children of different nationalities around the couple, who are in bed and singing.
The figures stand on a five-step stage symbolizing the five themes of John Lennon’s song Imagine: religion, country, possessions, sharing, and ‘as one’ in sixteen languages.
