| North recovers after the typhoon | |
Many northern provinces of Quang Ninh, Bac Giang, Lang Son, Son La, Bac Kan, Cao Bang, Lao Cai and Yen Bai reported 80 victims including 49 deaths, 7 missing and others injuries due to heavy rains and flooding triggered by typhoon Hapugit.

Residents in the northern provinces of Son La, Bac Giang, Lang Son and Quang Ninh died due to landslides while these reported to be missing because they are trying to passed by streams.
The rain brought flooding and damaged homes. Nearly 1,000 houses have been flattened and more than 9,000 houses had been damaged in Son La, so homeless residents must live with their relatives and neighbors for a while.
1,200 houses had been submerged in flooding waters and 250 had been collapsed in Tien Yen District in the northern province of Quang Ninh. Also around 20,000 hectares of cropland is submerged across the country.
Rescue forces were carrying out maintenance work on embankment in Khuon Than Lake in Luc Ngan District in Bac Giang. Relief forces evacuated people of 64 households to safer shelters.
Authorities have provided each flood-affected household and food. Quang Ninh supplied 2,000 inundated households each 10-20 kilogram of rice and VND6,000,000 in cash for those whose houses had been collapsed, and several boxes of instant noodles, water, dozens of medicines for victims.
People’s Committees of Son La province also offered those who relatives died and injured VND800,000-1,000,000 meanwhile the Department of Health sprayed chemicals to clean the environment after the typhoon. |
