Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has asked the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs to cooperate with the Ministry of Public Security and provincial and municipal People’s Committees to inspect and seriously deal with cases of illegal use of child labour.

The Viet Nam Fatherland Front, the Viet Nam Women’s Union and other social organizations are required to closely cooperate with relevant ministries, sectors and local authorities to detect child abuse, exploitation and violence against children.

The PM’s instruction has been sent by Government Office to ministries, services and localities in the wake of a case of ill-treatment given to girl laborer by her employers in Thanh Xuan precinct, Ha Noi.

Recently, police arrested a couple for maltreating 21-year-old Nguyen Thi Binh for 14 years. Police seized an electric wire, a pincer and two sticks, which the couple had allegedly used to torture Binh.

The couple has admitted to regularly beating Binh, splashing hot water on her body, and forcing her to kneel down to kick her in the mouth since she started working in their noodle shop at the age of eight.
