UN promises continued backing for Vietnam development

The UN will continue to support Vietnam’s social and economic development, its visiting deputy general secretary, Dr Asha-Rose Migiro, told Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung at a meeting in Hanoi on May 13.

The PM apprised her of the country’s social and economic development status and its efforts to maintain growth and social security.
 
Vietnam attaches great importance to achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goals in various fields like education, environment, and health, he said.

Ms.Migiro congratulated Vietnam for maintaining economic growth and ensuring social security.

She appreciated the Government’s efforts to minimize the effects of the global recession and to implement MDGs and the One United Nations initiative.

Earlier, at a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem, Ms.Migiro said Vietnam has achieved a new status in the world and made important contributions to the UN’s activities as a non-permanent member of the Security Council.

Mr.Khiem thanked the UN for its support to Vietnam’s development efforts.

Vietnam attaches great importance to its cooperation with the UN and hopes to receive more support from it, he said.
