The price of essential goods and services in particular must be kept under control and the fight against smuggled goods, trade fraud, speculation and tax evasion should be strengthened, it has said.

In a resolution issued early this week on its January meeting, the government also said relevant agencies must take effective measures to tighten control over product quality, goods safety and hygiene, and epidemic prevention.

Local authorities have been asked to provide adequate support for the poor, people living in remote areas or natural disaster-hit areas, as well as beneficiaries of social welfare programs.

Traffic must be streamlined, cultural and recreation activities must be organized, and social evils tackled.

Exploding firecrackers and fireworks and letting out sky lanterns should be strictly punished, the Government has said.

It has also ordered relevant agencies to fight wastefulness, maintain political and social security and order, and ensure traffic safety to minimize accidents during the Tet holiday, which falls on February 14.
