Ministry proposes HCMC - Can Tho high-speed rail

Transport Engineering Design Inc. South has recently presented a project to build a high-speed rail link from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho City to the Ministry of Transport.

The 170-kilometer railway, with six stations, will start from Thu Thiem or Hoa Hung in Ho Chi Minh City, go through Long An Province’s Tan An City and Tien Giang Province’s My Tho City, and end at Cai Rang, Binh Thuy or O Mon in Can Tho City.

The railway will reduce travel time from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho City to around one hour.

Trinh Hoai Duc, deputy transport minister, has ordered firms to speed up field research and make a detailed report to present to the Government next month.

The project is expected to cost US$4 billion.
