Huong River gets saltwater prevention dam
Part of Thao Long dam

A dam to prevent the intrusion of saltwater in the Huong River opened December 21 in the central province of Thua Thien – Hue.

The US$9 million Thao Long dam, which took seven years to build, is located three kilometers from the mouth of the river, is 571 meters long and comprises a saltwater prevention drain and a road bridge on top.

The dam has a large exhaust valve system that is operated and controlled by advanced technological technique.

It is the largest saltwater prevention dam in Southeast Asia, according to the Vietnam Institute for Irrigation Science’s Irrigation Research and Development Board.
