In the past, most residential projects in Ho Chi Minh City had traditional Vietnamese names. Today, however, a plethora of English names has been given to the burgeoning number of new city apartment buildings.

According to experts, giving apartment blocks an English name can help sell units quickly and even raise their value.
A real estate investor of a Vietnamese-named apartment project in a remote area of the city’s Thu Duc District bordering Binh Duong Province, said that after renaming the building in English, hundreds of units sold rapidly.
The Saigon Pearl, Star Hill, The Manor, The Vista, and Riverpark Residence are among the most popular real estate projects in the city.
The Binh Thien Joint Stock Company, meanwhile, recently announced it would launch the “Diamond Island” project with luxury apartments worth US$1-5 million each in HCMC’s District 2.
The investor said that Hollywood star Brad Pitt had already reserved one of the units, but a media investigation turned up no proof this was true.
The city has seen a huge increase in the number of high-quality apartments over the past several years, and it appears the trend of assigning English names to the buildings will only increase in the future.
