City to launch host of projects to mark anniversaries

Ho Chi Minh City will kick off several projects to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam People’s Army (December 22) and the 20th anniversary of the All-People’s National Defense (December 22), said Chairman of the city People’s Committee Le Hoang Quan on November 21.

Construction progresses on Thu Thiem trench in Nhon Trach district, southern province of Dong Nai,

Mr. Quan said that many key projects will also begin operations on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3) and the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi (1010-2010).

City leaders held a meeting November 21 to discuss plans to organize activities on the occasion of the anniversaries.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Quan said political activities would also be aimed at welcoming the Party congress at all levels as well as the 11th Party congress.

All activities need to demonstrate Vietnam’s national character and the quintessence of HCM City, said Mr. Quan.

He also asked leaders of the city Department of Transport, Health, and Education and Training to inspect several key projects in the city including bridges, roads, schools and hospitals, which are hoped to open soon.

To mark the national anniversaries, operations will begin at HCM City’s SPCT port, a joint venture between Tan Thuan Industry Development Company and DP World in Nha Be District. In addition, a route from Sac forest to Can Gio will open, aimed at developing tourism in the area.

The Hiep Phuoc port will also be inaugurated along with the Nguyen Van Troi project, while the second stage of the overpass and Thu Thiem trench in Nhon Trach will be completed, Mr. Quan added.
