Residents to give confidence votes for ward, commune leaders

Ho Chi Minh City authorities and Vietnam Fatherland Front committees will organize a vote of confidence for chairmen and deputy chairmen of people’s committees and people’s councils of wards, communes and towns, the HCMC Standing Committee of the Party said.

In 2008, a confidence vote was carried out at 309 wards, communes and towns for a total of 1,037 officials. A total of 979 of the officials received 70 to 100 percent of voter confidence, 49 received 50 to 70 percent, and nine received less than 50 percent.

Local executive committees of the Party use the annual vote to assess the quality of officials and Party members, and to determine residents’ opinions of their leaders.
