Belgian university funds kidney, urinary studies

The Belgian Interuniversity will fund €455,000 to HCM City’s Children’s Hospital 2 and Pham Ngoc Thach Medical University to promote the study of kidney and urinary diseases on children in Vietnam.

On May 27, an agreement to promote the study of kidney and urinary diseases was signed between the three institutes.

Under the program, the Belgian Interuniversity will provide PhD scholarships to two Vietnamese doctors to train in kidney and urinary diseases on children at universities in Belgium. It will also organize five short-term training courses related to specialty practice in Belgium.

The program will organize co-studies on urinary defects and kidney and urinary diseases, through which Belgian and Vietnamese doctors will work together to improve child healthcare in Vietnam.

Such studies will be carried out at hospitals in Can Gio and Thu Duc Districts.

The program will last until 2014.
