Drug firm reduces prices of vaccines: regulator bans antibiotic

The Vaccine and Biological product company No.1 (Vabiotech) cut the prices of nine vaccines, four of them imported, on April 16 following an order from the Vietnam Drug Administration.

The drugs watchdog VDA has banned the display and sale of Cefixime, an antibiotic used for treating respiratory diseases, due to quality concerns

The drug maker and importer also admitted its fault in increasing their prices by 5 to 50 percent at the end of March without authorization from the regulator or the Hanoi Department of Health.

In another move, the VDA has decided to ban Cefixime, an antibiotic capsule used to treat respiratory ailments, on quality grounds.

The drug is made by Indian firm Sweta Pharmaceuticals and imported by HCM City Medical Import Export Joint – Stock Company YTECO.

The National Institute of Drug Quality Control had earlier test samples and declared its quality was low in terms of average amount and content.
