The Ho Chi Minh-based Pediatrics Hospital I was able to announce that since it has performed its 400 open-heart surgeries on a child, it is now officially the first hospital in the south to carry out such operations.

The director Tang Chi Thuong said that due to increased numbers of children dying of heart disease, the hospital’s leaders became determined to build an examination room for treatment of infant patients with heart problems, the first of its kind in the country.

The hospital sent 40 members of staff, including doctors and technicians, to the Heart Institute for two years of training whilst the management board provided the room with state-of-the-art machinery and special medical equipment worth over VND12 billion.

The clinic has now been operating for 2 years and is looking forward to continued success. 

Thanks to careful preparation, they successfully performed their first surgery on five-year-old Ngo Khoi from the southern province of Ben Tre.

As an only child, Ngo Khoi’s father was so pleased to have his son safe and well and was overwhelmed by the generosity of the hospital that had paid for the costs of the surgery.

Ngo Khoi smiled happily in his hospital bed in spite of the new incision to his chest and today, on his birthday, he requested that his father buy him a birthday cake to share with his friends in the hospital room.
