Together with the HCMC Ballet and Symphony Orchestra, Duy will perform Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 in F Minor.
Bui Cong Duy, 26, is the first son of the artistic coupling of Pham Thuy Loan, who teaches the cello, and Bui Cong Thanh, a violin instructor. They introduced their son to the violin at the age of five.
In 1990, he won first prize in the Autumn National Music Competition at nine years old, and then went on to study in Russia’s Novosibirk State Glinka Conservatory. After graduating, he entered the Tchaikovsky Music Institute in Moscow 1998, studying there until 2003.
Duy won first prize in international violin contests organized in Novosibirsk and St. Petersburg in both 1993 and 1995. He also won acclaim by winning the Tchaikovsky International Music Competition for violinists under 18 in 1997.
He was later admitted to the Viruous Moskva Chamber Orchestra, becoming the first foreign member of the world-famous orchestra in its 24 year history.
“Musicians are held to high standards when playing in the orchestra,” says Duy. The 20-member orchestra, which regularly performs in countries throughout the world, includes such international prizewinners as Vladimir Sprvakov, Boris Garlitzky, and Arkady Futer.
The violinist has since given recitals in many countries including Russia, Poland, Switzerland, Italy, and France.
