During the festival, Pao’s Story directed by Ngo Quang Hai was on at three screenings at large cinemas in Budapest and one for the Vietnamese community in Hungary. The shows attracted large numbers of Hungarian cinemagoers. The special show for the media lured 70-80 journalists. This was a good thing for a Vietnamese film since Vietnamese movies are not popular in the European country. “In this film, we [the audience] walk in the upland northwest of Viet Nam, a wonderful misty land with marvelous people. Each meter of film is beautiful and attractive, though the movie is simple and moving, because it is very natural,” commented Katona Linda in “Titanic Diary” column dated April 7. “Pao’s Story could easily be an outstanding work in the middle of the career of a mature director,” [stressing that this is the first feature film by Ngo Quang Hai], commented Go.tz eszter on kultura.hu. At this festival, Jar City, a joint work by Iceland, Germany and Denmark, won the highest prize and 10,000 euros. The festival attracted 61 films from 30 countries and territories. |
