Education Reform Continues in 2007-2008

The education reform campaign with the slogan, “Say no to cheating in examinations and achievement chasing in education” will be continued in 2007-2008, said Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan, Minister of  Education and Training in a recent conference.

The conference took place to review the recent education work in region No.7, including Ha Noi, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh and Can Tho cities.

Mr. Nhan said that teachers need to be examples of morality and self-study and should not do anything to harm the education or morality of their students. Moreover, local authorities need to have concrete regulations on private tuition, improve the quality of education and make schooling more popular across all levels of society whilst also ensuring that there are enough of the right courses to meet the new demands of the population.

Reports from the Departments of Education and Training have also shown that local authorities have made considerable improvements this year. The education network has been working effectively; they have employed more teachers and established more schools and education centers.

Notably, both the quality and quantity of pre-school education has improved over the past year. Over 98% of 5-year-old children now go to local kindergartens whilst the number of primary school pupils studying in both the morning and the afternoon has reached 93.43% in Ha Noi City, 84.6% in Da Nang City, 70% in Hai Phong City, 62.8% in HCMC and 38.6% in Can Tho.
