A biography titled “Commander-in-Chief General Vo Nguyen Giap – the Eldest Brother of the Vietnam People’s Army,” has been published by the People's Army Publishing House ahead of Tet (the lunar New Year) in honor of the legendary 100-year-old.

The book contains more than 100 passages featuring expressions of admiration and respect for Mr. Giap, written by local and foreign heads of state, politicians, scholars and authors.

The collection of writing gives readers an overview of the General’s patriotic passion and dedication, particularly related to his comprehensive military, political, scientific and cultural talents.

It also affirms that he is a loyal communist who is faithful to the Party and people, and has sacrificed much for the nation.

Recalling a meeting with the General on the 55th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, Egyptian Ambassador to Vietnam Alla Elleissy wrote a letter to Mr. Tran Tam Giap, chairman of the Retirement Club of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In it, he said, “Meeting with the legendary General Vo Nguyen Giap made a deep impression on me and my wife. General Giap’s biography will be engraved deeply in the Egyptian people’s memories.”

General Peter Macdonald, British researcher of army history and science, said that undertaking the role of Commander-in-Chief for 30 years and participating in State affairs for 50 years, Mr. Giap has shown extraordinary talent in various fields.  Few generals can compare with him in the unprecedented combination of guerrilla and standard warfare, he added.

Lieutenant General Dong Si Nguyen wrote: “He is a teacher, a brother and a comrade who was very close to me during two resistance wars against the French and Americans in building and protecting the country.”
