The meeting, held at the Van Thanh Complex, was attended by the People’s Committee chairman Le Hoang Quan and deputy standing chairman Nguyen Thanh Tai. Five major events had been organized to celebrate the New Year -- the flower festival, lighting up of trees along the streets, fireworks on New Year’s Eve, decoration of streets, and outdoor music concerts. The flower street alone attracted an estimated one million visitors. Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Quan praised the local agencies for organizing entertainment activities and residents for keeping the cultural venues clean and demonstrating the city’s civilized lifestyle to foreign visitors. On the occasion, the People’s Committee issued certificates of merit to 46 organizations and 113 individuals who helped organize the Tet activities.
