Central VN Revives Indigenous Traits via Conservation Project

The Vietnamese Government has earmarked VND5 billion (US$312,500) for a project to conserve ancient villages belonging to ethnic minorities in Central Highlands Dac Lac Province amid its efforts to promote tourism in the area.

The project aims to revive intangible cultural values of the M’nong ethnic minority group in M’lieng village, Dac Lien Commune including traditional festivals, gong performances and traditional crafts such as sedge and wet rice growing and pottery making.

As part of the project funded by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, six houses and a communal house will be built using M’nong traditional construction materials at a cost of between VND600-700 million each.

In related news, yesterday, authorities in the central coastal Khanh Hoa Province officially granted a license to the T and M Van Phong Investment and Tourism Joint-Stock Co. to invest in building the luxury Hon Ngang –Bai Cat Tham eco-tourist complex in the Van Phong Economic Zone.

Being the largest tourist project ever in the zone, it covers 295 ha of land and more than 160 ha of water surface as well as boasting a 132-ha tourist and service center, a 103-ha eco-tourist area and high-class resort and a 60-ha outdoor tourist area.

The VND3.7 trillion project is scheduled for completion by 2018.
