VN-Index approaches 500 mark
The Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange recovered Wednesday, gaining 1.54 percent or 7.55 points to climb to a five-day high.

The benchmark VN-Index finished at 495.48 with 128 stocks advancing, 43 falling and 41 remaining unchanged. Trading volume was above 26.56 million shares, worth more than VND1.22 trillion.

The biggest advancer was the OPC Pharmaceutical Joint-Stock Company (OPC), which rose by 4.99 percent to VND50,500. Next was technology provider, CMC Corporation (CMG), which rose 4.96 percent to VND27,500; and fuel supplier, Materials – Petrolium Joint Stock Company (COM), which saw an increase of 4.9 percent to VND53,500.

Banking and construction stocks enjoyed robust trading.

Vietnam’s leading dairy producer, the Vietnam Dairy Products Company or Vinamilk (VNM), was the most active stock in volume with more than 1.5 million shares traded at VND86,000, or 4.88 percent up over the previous day.

It was followed by Saigon Commercial Bank, or Sacombank (STB), which saw more than 925,000 shares change hands at VND22,300.

The HNX-Index of the smaller exchange in Hanoi rose by 0.63 percent, or 1.01 points, to close at 161.92.

Of the index, 115 stocks gained, 102 dropped, and 38 were unchanged. Total trading volume reached more than 12.92 million shares, worth more than VND449.2 billion.

The UPCoM-Index advanced 0.53 percent, or 0.28 points, to 52.99. Nearly 300,000 shares changed hands this morning.
