Electrical Production Falls Short as Plants Go Offline

Electrical power production falls short of meeting demand by 1,500 megawatts to 2,500 megawatts due to operational problems at several large power plants, according to an estimate issued by the Electricity National Load Dispatch Center on Wednesday.

Nhon Trach Power Plant has just been put into operation and produces only 150 megawatts

The Ca Mau 1 Power Plant and the Ca Mau 2 Power plants, both of which have a capacity of 750 megawatts, halted the operation on June 15 for repairs. Nhon Trach, which has a design capacity of 450 megawatts, is producing only 150 megawatts.

Workers have not finished repairing the 300 megawatt Uong Bi Power Plant, which halted operation on May 18. Moreover, the gas turbine of the Phu My Power Plant hasn’t worked since June 30.

Power plants must work without pause when the water level is very low. As the plants are in poor repair, the council asked the  government to call on the public to use less electricity.
