Cattle-feed price hike upsets breeders

A recent hike in prices of cattle-feed has upset breeders who are also being hit by falling prices of their cattle, said the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The feed prices have risen because raw materials used to make it have increased by 6.8-17.6 percent.

The ministry also reported that due to the high price of domestic sugar, it is considering importing 50,000 tons of refined sugar for retail sales and 50,000 tons of raw sugar for industrial food production to stabilize prices.

The ministry has forecast the sugar prices might increase in February.
