| A farmer in Vinh Phuc Province worries he cannot sell the milk |
After Vinamilk, Hanoimilk and the International Dairy Product Company (IDP) have bought milk, 2.5 tons of milk remain daily. At a meeting Friday with around 500 farmers in Phu Dong Commune, Hanoi’s Gia Lam District, to discuss measures to buy milk, Pham Tuyen of Vinamilk, said farmers have to pledge to supply milk to Vinamilk for the long term. If any farmer violates their contract by selling milk to other companies they will not be paid. For the time being, Vinamilk will buy their milk at a price that is applied for farmers nationwide, VND7,100 ($0.41) per liter. Phu Dong currently has the most dairy cows in Hanoi, about 1,300 cows that produce 8.5-9 tons of fresh milk daily. IDP vowed yesterday to buy three tons of milk per day from farmers in Vinh Tuong District and two tons per day from Yen Lac District in the nothern province of Vinh Phuc, where farmers have been pouring excess milk on road.
